Autos and autowalas

Various curousitis/realitites of the auto and it's driver (the autowala):

• Bargaining with autowalas is a battle, but by law they have to use the meter. My adivce, just let them go and catch the next one, there are so many autos in the city that there is no point in arguing. My foreigner features is a negative point, but to have urdu/hindi knowledge is a plus.
• The meter starts from 0 km and 20 rs. After using it daily twice, I've discovered that from km 1.8 the price will start to rise.
• After 9 pm (till 6 am) there is an unwritten rule of one and a half, that means if the meter reaches the 100 rs, you will have to pay 150.
• Always have a scarf with you to cover your head, because of the dust, pollution and traffic in the city.
• Your trip will hardly end up in a round number, and the autowala will never have change of 2, 3 or even 5 rupees. Fight and ask back for your change. There will always be the good autowala who will return you even more change than the established because he wont have smaller change, and there's always the bad one who won't have change. Last advice, always save the change from any shopping you do.
• Almost every auto has a sheet with the name, photo, address, badge number, blood type, etc. of the autowala. Working in the port of Barcelona made me realize that it's useful to save the number of the taxi just in case you forget anything in it, so there is a way to contact back. Same could be applied with autos.

Varias curiosidades/realidades del auto y su conductor (el autowala):

• Regatear con los autowalas es toda una batalla, pero por ley deben ir con meter. Segun mi experiencia, exiten tantos autos en la ciudad que es mejor no sofocarse y subir el siguiente que acepte ir con meter. Tener conocimiento del urdu/hindi juega a favor.
• El meter empieza en los 0 km y 20 rupias. Despues de subir al auto minimo dos veces al dia para ir a la oficina he descubierto que a partir del km 1.8 el precio empieza a subir.
• A partir las 9 p.m. y hasta las 6 a.m. existe la regla no escrita de uno y medio. Significa que si el meter sube a 100 rs, tendras que pagar 150.
• Siempre ten un paniuelo para cubrir la cabeza, pues hay mucha trafico y polucion en la ciudad.
• Tu trayecto casi nunca acabara en un numero redondo y el autowala nunca tendra cambio de 2, 3 o hasta 5 rs. Pelea por tu cambio, estan obligados a dartelo. Existe el autowala simpatico que te devolvera de mas por no tener cambio, pero sobre todo estara el borde que no tendra cambio y no querra buscarlo. Ultimo consejo, siempre consigue cambio de toda compra.
• Casi todos los autos tienen una placa con el nombre, foto, direccion, numero de inscripcion, tipo de sangre, etc. del conductor. Trabajar en el puerto de Barcelona me ensenio que siempre es bueno guardar el numero de taxi por si se olvida algo en el, siempre hay forma de contactar. Lo mismo se podria aplicar a los autos.
